Blue Illusion has brought together two international fashion icons to celebrate the Spring 2019 season - Iris Apfel and Chyka Keebaugh.
Photographed in the renowned New York home of 97 year old fashionista, Iris Apfel, the campaign is titled “A Life in Colour”. Iris founded a textile and design firm with her husband Carl, and has acted as a stylist for the wives of nine US presidents. Iris’ love of colour is key to her personal style - she says “I never met a colour I didn’t like”.
Chyka Keebaugh, an astute business woman, joined Iris in New York to photograph Blue Illusion’s latest collection, bringing together two icons of fashion and lifestyle who have embraced colour through their bold and inspirational lives.
Iris effortlessly creates work of art outfits by wearing her more-is-more jewellery with bright, colourful prints. Iris commented, “Let's face it, life can be dull; you might as well have a little fun with colour when you dress”.
Iris first became part of the Blue Illusion family in 2016 when she was the face of our “Ageless” campaign.I had wanted to work with Iris since 2005 when The Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York created a show around Iris’ fashion collection. With her unsual sense of dry humour, Iris commented at the time "I always thought to show at the Met you had to be dead.”
She has been described as “a bird of paradise with a magpie eye for sorting and gathering”, and for our Life in Colour campaign, Iris was free to mix and match our Blue Illusion pieces with her own accessories. The result was incredible as always.
I brought together these two women as they perfectly embody the Blue Illusion joie de vivre.
Both are famous for living wonderfully colourful lives and have an intense passion for their work and a love of colour. Both love fashion and interior décor and are not afraid to fully express their unique personalities.
As we say at Blue Illusion, “create your look and make it your own” - we love exploring individual looks with our customers by using your personal style. Iris comments: “You have to know yourself before you can find your own style” - so let’s embrace who we are and celebrate our unique passions.
In the coming weeks we will introduce you to some fabulous new collections including our Bastille Day collection and two exciting new print stories including a bright and lively Midnight Jungle collection and exotic yet feminine Into the Wild trans-seasonal collection.
This time of year is a great opportunity to break free and have some fun with fashion. It may be a little cold outside but as Iris says “the world is so grey - we need more colour than ever”.
